    Stay evergreen

Our last for the year Cream Bar Circle gathering, was festive of cookies, sweet cacao celebration, with bubbly feelings in the air. Everyone was little tired from the year, but eager to mix few fast home made beauty recipes. The team for the event was green. We wanted to make easy recipes from freshly squeezed aloe vera and add some scrubs and cleansers for seasonal purification.

The dark hours in the winter time are suitable for deep salty warming baths and anything that keeps the spirit evergreen. Aloe vera is a perfect moisturizer, perhaps not suiting for winter face cream in the cold weather, but anything cleansing and hydrating is made with the soothing aloe magic.

I also had some extra French green clay, which we decided to experiment with. I used the French green clay for the making of face mask with French lavender and was instantly in love with this deep cleansing green mixture.

    French Green Clay?

French Green Clay is also known as Green Montmorillonite Clay. It is a soft, mineral-rich clay that is found in and named after Montmorillon, a commune located in western France. French Green Clay was first mined in France (hence its name), but now has been found, and mined, in other clay deposits in the Western US, China, and elsewhere in Europe. French Green Clay is sometimes also called Sea Clay.

It’s rich in minerals including iron, magnesium, selenium, silicon, phosphorus, calcium, manganese, and copper. French Green Clay is a strong drawing agent; it is excellent at absorbing oil and removing impurities from the skin, and it holds nearly its weight in water. This clay rejuvenates the skin while it exfoliates and helps remove oil, dirt and debris. It promotes glowing skin that looks smoother, softer and healthier.

French Green Clay is rich in important minerals and is a highly absorbent clay that can be used in facials, body wraps, soaps, deodorizing body/foot powders. French Green Clay can also be used in the formulation of hair pastes and other hair care products that help to naturally cleanse the hair and scalp. As a highly absorbent clay, it is not recommended for use in skin care products intended for frequent use by those with dry or sensitive skin/hair.

French green clay has been reported to:

    • Absorb oil/remove impurities
    • Smooth skin
    • Deliver nourishing minerals to skin
    • Increase circulation
    • Tighten pores
    • Calm skin inflammation

    Green Days

In the making of body scrub recipe with French Green Clay we decided to use Dead Sea salt. Denitsa had to crush the salt with the molter until finer. For me, the Dead Sea salt has extreme warming active effect and is not particularly suiting for my sensitive skin. This effect is less dramatic, when the scrub is applied with bath glove or sponge under shower and massaged gently. I would still recommend to use finer salts, such as pink or Icelandic flakes salt.

We also swapped the Camellia Oil with Jojoba Oil. I would recommend if exchanged, the oil should be with about 85% fatty acid oil composition. The matcha tea added wonderful texture greenness to the mix and made perfect sense as it has wonderful skin properties on its own. Matcha is an excellent ingredient for the skin as well. Matcha is anti bacterial and contains incredibly high levels of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is helpful in reducing inflammation and to even skin tone. The antioxidants are also known for reducing acne and increasing skin elasticity.

    • Matcha is rich in chlorophyll which is a natural detoxifier and helps to remove toxins from your skin and body.
    • Matcha contains high levels of catechins, which are a potent antioxidant and help to fight the processes that cause free radicals and prevent poor health.
    • Matcha helps to absorb and prevent excess oil and sebum on your skin, which can help to reduce the appearance of acne and blackheads.
    • Matcha naturally produces energising properties, which helps to stimulate skin cells and blood flow to help reduce the effects of ageing.
    • Matcha contains more antioxidants than dark chocolate, spinach and fruits like acai combined.
    • Matcha contains a number of important nutrients, including iron, protein, potassium, calcium and vitamin C.
    • Matcha contains L-Theanine, an amino acid that supports relaxed and smooth skin.
    • Matcha contains anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce the appearance of skin conditions and support radiant skin.

Green Tea & Salt Body Scrub

This recipe uses Palmarosa and Peppermint essential oils. We decided to go for the same Essential Oil combination, which gave extra refreshing note to the aroma. Both oils are known for their headache pain relieving properties.

Makes one 8-ounce (240 ml) jar.

    Ingredients:
3/4 cup (210 grams) small grain sea salt
3 ounces (90 ml) camellia oil
1 tablespoon (15 grams) French green clay
1 tablespoon (15 grams) matcha green tea powder
1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) palmarosa essential oil
1/8 teaspoon (0.65 ml) peppermint essential oil

    Directions:
Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl and stir well. Break up any lumps in the salt or powders. Blend camellia oil with essential oils in a small container, then add to dry ingredients. The texture of the scrub can be adjusted by adding all, or only a portion of the liquid phase to the dry. Mix ingredients well and transfer to jar (or use immediately).

I store my jar tightly closed in the bathroom. There are no ingredients that can mold easily, unless much of water is added, while used. The scrub leaves my skin deeply purified and has wonderful calming and toning effect. My fair skin, does not like salt scrubs very much, so I massage it gently and avoid all the sensitive skin areas of my body.

    Home made and yummy

    French Green Clay Deodorant

    Lavender Bergamot Deodorant Recipe
    © Rebecca Dawn Dillon

It is interesting that, French green clay obtains its light green color from naturally occurring iron oxide and decomposed plant material – the same life cycle that the earth uses to regenerate herself. In turn, its soft texture and elemental composition lends itself well to a variety of skin care preparations.

    Ingredients:
    6 oz. arrowroot powder
    3 oz. magnesium hydroxide
    1 oz. French green clay
    2 oz. cocoa butter
    2 oz. baobab oil
    0.5 oz. 100% neem oil
    0.5 oz. refined shea butter
    1/2 teaspoon beeswax pastilles
    0.1 oz. lavender essential oil
    0.05 oz. bergamot essential oil

    Instructions:
To make my lavender bergamot deodorant recipe with French green clay, begin by weighing out the cocoa butter and shea butter into a large glass Pyrex measuring cup or glass bowl. (It’s important to note that refined shea butter has a higher melting point than unrefined shea butter. Therefore substitutions may cause variations in the recipe.)

Next, measure out a level teaspoon of the beeswax pastilles and add it to your container. Melt these ingredients on a double boiler. Once melted, weigh out the baobab oil and neem oil. Stir these oils into the melted butters and wax. (If needed, you can gently heat the deodorant mixture again then mix well to combine.) I used substituted the oils with infused oils, which I have made some months ago. I used chamomile coconut oil and rice bran rose petal oils. It is possible to replace the baobab and neem oil, with any carrier oil, preferably with dryer kind of oils such as hemp or jojoba oil. But the nice effect of neem oil is in its antibacterial properties.

While the lavender bergamot deodorant mixture is still hot, weigh out and stir in the arrowroot powder, French green clay and magnesium hydroxide. Mix well to combine. I did not have magnesium in powder form, so I used magnesium oil instead. If this is the case, it is advisable to see the consistency of the mixture and add little extra arrowroot powder. I do not recommend to use the oil, but to find if possible the magnesium hydroxide powder.

Then follow with the essential oils, weighing out the amounts first, then stir them into the deodorant mixture until thoroughly incorporated. Finally, pour your lavender bergamot deodorant into your desired containers of choice. My mixture turned little softer, but the result is perfect. I can do my yoga class and still be fresh whole day after. I store my deodorant in small travel jar and have bigger jar in my bathroom shelf. Avoid using with wet fingers, apply small dose under each armpit and wash hands after. Unless you find biodegradable paperboard jars or design your own eco-friendly package.

Perfect protection, feels gentle and you will never want to use normal store deodorant again

    French Green Clay Mask

    Recipe by Bubmblebee Apothecary

    Ingredients:
    6 tbsp aloe vera gel
    6 tbsp French green clay
    6 tbsp white kaolin clay
    1 tsp lavender flowers
1 tsp powdered St. John’s Wort
    12 drops lavender essential oil
12 drops natural preservative (optional; use if you’re going to store mask at room temperature for more than a day or so)

    Instructions:
Measure clays and aloe vera and mix together thoroughly. Add powdered herbs, essential oil, and preservative, if using. Mix well. Use immediately, or store in glass jar with lid for later use. I prefer storing mine in the refrigerator, so it lasts longer and it has less chance of developing germs.

I find this French green clay mask, to have deep cleansing after effect on my skin. It leaves the skin circulation deeply restored, rosy and fresh. It is little too drying for my skin complexion, so I don’t apply it more than once a month.

The best way to use is by covering thick layer over the face and neck area, avoiding the eyes. After about 15 minutes I wash it off by gently massaging the lavender bugs with the help of little warm water. It is good to apply rich face cream afterwords.

Are you fresh and clean and living in a forest dream? The symbolism of the Christmas tree is about youthfulness. To remain forever young, no matter how dark it gets around. The fountain of youth was depicted in many ancient cultures in the form of a fountain of course, but also a tree and also pine cone. Why pine cone? Firstly it comes from the evergreen trees, it carries the sacred golden ratio geometry and it has deep meanings in esoteric teachings. This teachings are connected to the cosmic theology and the human body. The pineal gland is the ultimate awakened lotus, which when once opened “inside us” brings enlightening awareness, which in its turn creates symbolic “eternal sunshine”. We are then living our full potential as cosmic beings.

“We all have a ‘pineal gland’ located near the ‘centre’ of our brains. Pine cone shaped (hence its name), the pineal gland was once considered a ‘vestigial remnant’ of a larger organ – the Third Eye. The pineal gland is the only midline brain structure that is unpaired (azygous), tucked in a groove where the two halves of the thalamus join. Sitting thus precisely between the two hemispheres (behind the ‘third’ ventricle) it personifies the abstracts occult concept that we find our centre by balancing duality. Rene Descartes believed that the pineal gland to be the ‘principal seat of the soul’ and viewed it as the Third Eye. Descartes attached significance to the gland because he believed it to be the only section of the brain to exist as a single part rather than one-half of a pair.”
    ~Richard Cassaro

Well, after you try this home made remedies, your skin, body and mind, would never think of ready commercial cosmetic shopping. There is pleasure, curiosity and realization in the process of creating your own hygiene compounds. Once taken this path brings to you to minimization of toxicity in life. More over it awakes new living needs and habits, which eventually lead to greener life. The life that we all, who are concerned of our green footprint want to participate in.

This changes are slow, but easy to make and the ingredients, which I use are not difficult to find. I feel pampered and grateful to the people who wrote this recipes. It will take some time to contribute with my own creative recipes, but for now I enjoy sharing our experience, from trial and error. • Setting my program on “not famous and still alive”

Setting my program on “not famous and still alive”

My tribe recently lost young female in ayahuasca ceremony. The Peruvian shaman must have been fake… I tried to explain to her family over the phone, what dmt is and that not all shamans are careless dopers…. but it was too late.

Education, experience, sometimes not enough to understand… well not all people are ready to open their eyes for the world… everything goes fast. What do we even know about medicin and shamans? Or yoga? Listen to your inner voice… my dear friend said.

We just want that it works and hope it does less damage. Once we see “the other side”, we think we got powers, and yet we stuck in the same reality mud. “No one can get out of here alive…”. At the same time the society we are living in likes those who are fake and praises the death on opiates, but even when it seems to be tribal, or family oriented, it is more of a gazliting kind of a tribe, rather than serving from the source of truth. Perhaps by praising the ones dramatically death, we ignite long lost connection with the spirit… which tells us, how far we exist from the center of our true self. Perhaps the beauty is in the vulnerable act of letting life happen to you, rather than push it and be strong and alone somewhere plugin your motor in service of solitude. Hard mix.

Our current issues are devaluation of the health and simple care of the whole of our humanity. As long as we separate body from mind, family from the whole, we will not be able to combine our resources and treat this disease of dissecting the human as we should. All matters of why we ended being at this situation are intertwined. It is time to discuss all this matters and not pretend how cool is to post about dead famous people, without digging into the misery they most likely felt while dying. There is no glamour in being famous and dead… The irony here has repeated since the times of Van Gogh, his sliced ear creates the classical image of suffering genius, whose souls was locked in mental box and yet expressed by the most tender of colors. We can observe the fresh tree blooms, translucent light impregnating sound of innocence he painted, and yet we cannot heal the artist from the isolation. This the juxtaposition of suffering child sight, through which the nature innocence was eternally preserved from decay.

Did he had to suffer in order to be great artist? In a way yes and no. Unfortunately the common death in your vomit was almost a symbolism of the most cherished “Club 27” rock-stars. Rock-star hitting the rock bottom kinda goes hand in hand for the symbolism of some true rock’n’roll. This of course changed with the way music sold its soul not for the devil, but to the dollar bill. And this is socially excepted. Artists can flourish and be famous bling-bling instagarmmers, with or without musical talent. Nowadays, we count what is seen to be the truth of the stardom. In reality, what we don’t see, is much more and highly valued. Because as we know, what we first with the eyes, but we eventually we have to see with the heart. The front is like art deco front yard on Miami beach 1999. All pink, peach and white. While behind the scenes, rats are walking over breaking bad leg. We are alone while we type here on the face of the book and slurp on the medicine to feel better. Facebook is the cocktail enterprise that masturbates us entertainment to sleep. Its goo to be back umph. I want o rejoice before vomit.

How do we loose ourselves and how to reconnect and find our way back home… to our “sleeping tiger”. To awake our breathing dragon we first need to recognize the trauma, which prevents us to be fully functioning being. Every each of us was born with one or more trauma. Over life time we are suppose to adapt and grow out of this trauma. Trauma is a base of all this negligence of ourselves, addictions, loneliness and isolation. The western capitalistic way of existence deepen this traumas, or if I may call them cracks. If one is able to regenerate and fill up the disconnection-crack with meaning, faith… then we have gold in the crack as the Japanese Kintsugi pottery makers did. Unfortunately most of us, don’t have the time for self discovery or have too much time on their hands, to play victim, to play with medication, alcohol and desperate slow suicide games. Most of us have been trapped years in emotional turmoils, which prevent the spirit to run free in joy. We are bond to material or other desires, from which we slurp happy teas, but if someone removes our joys, our fancy homes, cars or toys, we will be naked children crying out loud.

There is Chiron child inside all of us, which has been reborn in the sign of Aries, where he currently transits. Chiron is changing signs in different periods of time. All this periods are not systematic in a way, which means that Chiron reside in some signs longer than in others passes through rather fast. The Aries lamb is ready to burst new life from all this old sorrows. Reborn from the internal piscean ocean, now each of us has to incorporate the meaning of self service in the name of our own true believe. No more social, family, racial or other external believes will be valued. Rich, poor, female, male, we all have to develop and stand for the believe we have with a strong sword. It is not sword to kill. It is sword of honor. Our own spine cord to hold. The emotional Pisces dream is now transforming us as individuals. Can we create from a place of vulnerable open wound, while spreading tender emotion, without burning all behind. Can we be emotional, sensual human beings, who help and care one another, without enslaving our own believes, without corrupting our reality with someone else projections? It seems that we are awaking from this dream collectively and girls can get angry and be loved and boy can cry and be loved too.

Can we also stop being liking and start being real. We cannot like and love all, we cannot be all the time just having pleasure and escape all the pain. Pain makes the colors of the paint, which glow in the dark. If we could channel the pain and channel it creatively, this is what makes our world better place. That is why art is so important and saves lives. Not the career of the artist, not the success an artist achieves. Why? Because we all know how tragically the king of Rock-Elvis and the King of Pop Michel their life met the end. Because they needed that validation from the outside, or they lost connection with themselves, or they were consumed by the system… It is a sad story to pressure artist for an outcome. To stop creating from the heart and to start producing, trying to fulfill someones outside needs. But the things you don’t see on social media, the ritual of artist’s work, the feelings he has… while creating… the emotions and dreams he aspire before an idea arises. This are the moments we have to understand are invisible and shy from the other eyes. We should not control this moments, instead let the creativity brewing through the inner wounds, where magic happens. Magic happens before this point of expression. And no one should see this magic, otherwise he interfere with the quantum physic motion of the atom.

And that is why psychotropic plants work, because even if we have expectations, even if we try to control, after we consume them, we do not know what will happen. They inspire the unknown, they pull parts within us which were hidden. They heal us. If someone sells bad medicine, if someone pretends to be a healer and kills out of negligence… he will have to pay heavy payment. But let us not prevent the possibility for medical plants to become popularized way of healing addictions and trauma. They have serve the human race since ancient days. We have lost touch with the plant kingdom. We have to reconnect. There are no bad trips, there are people and their conditions. There are true shamans and healers and there are charlatans. I do believe the psychotropic plants are the fastest way to reconnect with our truth. But I don’t want to advertise them. On the contrary, I believe that humble work, discipline, sharing, loving, meditating, nature and care and faith, are the best way to heal an open wounded heart.

  • The Moon rape

    The Moon rape

The Moon was a space alien invader… emerging from her cadaver cadet, she was the Scarface who wanted to remind the Earth each time of her rape. Just as the Sun gave us light and photosynthesis, so did creatures survived below the ocean bottoms, where no light or oxygen can survive. Too much light could kill us and so the Moon became the curtains, sunglasses that protect us from getting blind. The Moon reminds, too much of that loving bright light, could bring certain disabilities… like positive thinking and toasted barbies on rodeo ride.

Whenever awaken in the dark with her mirror reflecting my face through the night, I would stumble on my smoking balcony, hiding behind the white ash rose bush, thinking of incest, open heart surgeries and bitter cocktails. Her loony Scarface was yelling at me “Rape. Rape. Rape”. And I had to wear leather pants and snakeskin boots to feel like Kali going to buy ciggies around the corner kiosk, but ended gulping whiskey in the new bar sidewalk and dancing shirtless in circles like wild tailless pony.

The Moonlight drive was her song, enjoying night dip in the ocean of deep submissive thoughts. But there was no ocean, or there is no ocean without hidden creatures, without poisonous snakes and hungry babies. Her scar-face was pain and her only friend was the Earth’s body. She would follow her neighbour, like a maniac on deludes, Xanax, barbiturates, opium teas, pointing stained silver revolver, waving fed ex asking for marriage she never had… and was somehow stalking at plan. The Earth had no choice, her body was almost depended on this oceanic orgasmus waving. Maybe she could get rid of her one day and have more time dancing naked alone. Undisturbed, without anyone pulling her rhythmic water plated skirts.

What would happen if our Scarface committed suicide? There will be no more tides and rapid ecliptic changes. There will be no more Sun-Moon meetings and cross road dances. The human race might not make it and aliens would enjoy the scene, planting new trees? Time, space and matter will change on Earth. She maybe happier in solitude, but what kind of life is there without suicide dreams and dancing naked drunk?

    Soap for Hunters

    Finnish pine tar mustard

“Terva” is the Finnish word for tar and is related to the word “terve”, which translates to “healthy” or “hello”. In Finland tar is used for buildings, food products such as ice-cream, liquor, candy and even mustard with pine tar taste. Pine tar was just recently registered in the EU-chemicals list and it is interesting, that they don’t mention the creosote free tar used for cosmetics or foods production. I have eaten on daily bases Finnish pine tar candy called “Terva Lejona”, which translates to “Tar Lion”. Sounds like healthy lion to me.

First I came across pine tar while living in northern Finland, near the city of Oulu, which once was the main port for tar to reach foreign lands. Almost every Finnish sauna I seen, had soap or shampoo consisting pine tar. The smoky, leathery aroma was everywhere during the summer. It embodies memories from fire and wood, which fuel my soul. It is the kind of nostalgic scent, which fires engines, sails boats, rides horses, skiing on ice rooftops with long white beards.

    Finnish “Lion Tar” liquorice candy

Fairies running naked through pine tree forests, falling asleep over silver moss. Clearly I miss Finland and the many natural clean aromas from the forest. In a world made of petroleum oil, wood seems like an element of deficiency in my city life. Another eco-friendly product I am not finding in Germany is the “Mäntysuopaa” liquid soap, which was perfect washing detergent for my carpets. I use to dry them on the sunny sea shore for couple of days and afterwords my whole room would have this pure, clean feel. Pine soap is the most commonly used alkaline washing liquid in Finland. The soup was made from pine oil extraction, which is a by-product of the pulp cooking. There is so much forest in Finland per capita, which gives the forest industry still major role. After the decline of paper production in recent years, new technologies have been developed for skin cream, snacks and plastic replacements from wood.

    Finnish pine soap “Mäntysuopa”

The cream looks and feels like a normal, creamy soft cosmetic should. You wouldn’t think that it’s made from wood. The emulsifier used in the cream, or the component that binds water and oil, is hemicellulose, a by-product of the forest industry. Hemicellulose is a polysaccharide found in plant cell walls; it is a carbohydrate that in trees is responsible for their flexibility. Thanks to hemicellulose, a tree will not snap in strong wind, but will sway and bend with it. Cellulose is the component that makes the wood harder. Yes, Finland has long history with the wood use, and so many interesting products are delivered from a simple wood. So let me now introduce you to the story of the pine tar.

Pine tar is often made from the waste roots and stumps of pine trees cut down for lumber. The wood is slowly heated in the absence of oxygen in a process called pyrolysis. The heat turns some chemicals in the wood into a dark, sticky liquid tar that oozes out of the wood. The solids that remain are converted into charcoal. The absence of oxygen during this process prevents the charcoal and tar from burning.

The smoky-smelling pine tar was made in huge quantities in the era of wooden sailing ships. It was used in the packing material (oakum) that sealed the cracks between planks in ships’ hulls. It has been also used in veterinary for medical purposes. Nowadays, the market for pine tar is small but steady. It is used on baseball bats to improve grip and on horses’ hooves as a protective dressing. It is sometimes used as a protective coating on wood buildings, fences, and other outdoor structures. In Finland pine tar is commonly used for boat and sauna wood preservation. The charcoal is used for cooking, in blacksmiths work, or any other purpose that needs a hot, nearly smokeless fire. Tar was made also from birch trees.

About the most bizarre uses of the pine tar through the World’s history, was a punishment. It was recorded from the 17th century in USA, about public torture called tarring and feathering, which involved naked man covered in hot sticky tar and then rolled in to feathers or something like that.

Finnish variety of pine tar products: sauna scent, chocolate, shampoo, liquor, essential oil and soap.

    The Finnish Pine Tar Tale

The tar was already used during the pile construction period around 4000 – 1800 BC. Pliny, a Roman historian who died in 79, wrote that tar water was already used in ancient Egypt to protect roofs and ships, and to embalm the bodies.

In Europe, tar was produced in the Middle Ages, particularly in the Prussian region. The decline of forests in Europe led to a shift in the direction of northern Europe. In Finland, tar burning came from Europe and Russia. Its exact time of arrival is difficult to estimate, but tar has been produced in our country for centuries. Already in the 16th century it was exported in small quantities abroad.

Tar was Finland’s first export product in the 15th century. Firstly the sea side forests were mainly used for the tar product export. Later in the 18th century the industry moved towards the east Finnish lands, where the forests were still untouched and big part of the pine tar industry was located in the area of Oulu and Kainuu. The process of making pine tar was long and time consuming. The wood was gathered for about four years. Afterwords in spring time, wood pile was created and burned during the June-July months. The fire was burning for about a week long and the heat was between 170-420°C. From one burning usually 40-45 barrels of tar were produced. One barrel was about 125 liters.

For the transportation of the tar barrels from the east forests, to the west sea side city of Oulu, were used specially made boats. Those boats would carry about 20 barrels of tar and will take up to 2-3 weeks to reach the sea port.

For a long time, tar burning in Finland had been mainly household burning. Previously, tar was in the houses by the barrel. There were many uses for it. It was used for almost everything that was required to withstand weather variations and humidity. Tar was used, among other things, as a medicine. in the treatment of rashes and as a wood preservative. Tarred wood ceilings are known as shingle roofs. Wooden boats and oars were also salvaged. Both forms of tar use have survived to the present day. Skis and clothes also got their share of tar. Wooden parts of tools, sledges and carts also got a layer of tar on their surface. Let’s use pitch oil produced from it as an insect repellent.

The important role of tar in people’s lives is evident in the form of the following old Proverbs:

“If sauna, liquor or pine tar don’t help,
    the disease is death”.

Pine Tar as a Skin Remedy

Pine tar soap is old-fashioned way to heal psoriasis, eczema and other skin rashes. In the use for soap making or any other product for skin use, pine tar needs to be without creosote, which acts as carcinogen. Creosote is by-product of burning minerals during the making process. Finding creosote pine tar is not the easiest thing. I had to order mine from Etsy soap re-seller. To sell the soap for skin condition treatments, one has to label it as a drug and not simply cosmetic. So, this kind of pine tar soaps are simply called “natural soaps”.

Lighting up the tar bed in Finland

It is still questionable weather pine tar is beneficial for the skin. There has not been done many studies on the subject, but at least in countries like Finland it has been used for decades in cosmetics. In countries like USA, pine tar is treated as not effective drug, so it is prohibited to claim that pine tar cosmetic products have any health benefits. Although “Beard Soap” or “Grandpa Soap” has long history in the country of removing dandruff and treating eczema, even that there are only 5% of pine tar in such products.

In Russia the tar shampoo industry is huge. Mainly sold for dry seborrhea with recommended use not more than three times a week and only for problematic skin and scalp irritations. You will notice that the hair grows faster, because the tar in the soap increases blood flow to the hair follicles. The tar is told to have antiseptic properties and removes fungus that is thought to cause itching and flaking. Tar acts as re-generator and softens the course of the disease.

According to the finish pine tar shampoo or soap consumers, pine tar helps to remove skin irritation and soothes the skin. Summarizing information from specialized forums, it can be concluded that the composition of cosmetics contains tar, which helps to fight oily dandruff. Doctors involved in treating the disease say that the beneficial properties of tar can be used not only for treatment but also for disease prevention. Tar soap is also suitable for intimate hygiene. Researchers found that women using tar soap are less susceptible to gynecological diseases. Soap helps with moss. It’s a good idea to use it after or even during the bikini area. It heals micro wounds and skin is less injured.

Tar soap, for all its merits, has contraindications. It is better not to use it if you are prone to allergies or have kidney problems. In addition, it is not recommended for people with thin, dry skin. Also to be avoided by pregnant women. If you wash regularly with tar soap, rinse it with cool water, then be sure to apply a nourishing cream. Birch tar is produced by distilling birch bark. In the past, tar had a special, respected place. It was used to heal eczema, ulcers, psoriasis, lichen, and was even taken orally. Tar soap was very popular for its simplicity and ease of use.

Because of the strong odor, the tar soap is often ignored. If you use it at night, there will be no smell in the morning. Using tar soap can help you get rid of many cosmetic imperfections.

    Common baby, light the Campfire

The pine tar soap making process is told by many to be difficult, because the tar is quickly thickening. This was not an issue for me. My first batch was velvet and soft, easy to pour. The process is basically the same as any other soap, except for mixing the sticky tar with the oils in between. My second pine tar soap batch turned out more solid. I used both times this tar soap recipe, which is simple and has no palm oil or lard, which I prefer not to use in my products. Apparently by mixing longer the batter gets thicker. And perhaps depending on the oil substance, the batter thickness may vary.

The main question when making pine tar soap is of course how much tar to add to the soap. It seems that most soap makers use between 10% to 15% tar. Some makers claim in order to have effect, one needs to use 20%. The soap I made with 10% tar has rich aroma, long lasting softness and I have received positive feedback from everyone who has tested it. If you like to purchase my soap, I have it on sale on my Etsy shop.

Whatever pine tar you find in the store, make sure that it is labeled as 100% pure pine tar. And I would not use other than creosote free substance for any cosmetics. Although we consume much of carcinogenic barbecue or deep fried foods, that does not mean they are healthy. I believe it is hard to imagine that any pine tar substance would be absolutely free of carcinogenic compounds, I would at least try to find the purest pine tar for any soaps used on my skin.

    Pine Tar Soap Recipe

    Liquid & Lye Portion:

    10 oz (283 g) cold distilled water
    3.8 oz (108 g) lye (sodium hydroxide)
    1 teaspoon salt (optional)

Oil & Pine Tar Portion (30 ounces total):

    18 oz (510 g) olive oil (60%)
    7.5 oz (213 g) coconut oil (25%)
    1.5 oz (43 g) castor oil (5%)
    3 oz (85 g) pine tar (10%)

Optional Essential Oils for Added Scent:

0.75 oz (21 g) cedarwood Atlas essential oil
    0.5 oz (15 g) lavender essential oil

    Directions to Make

    Step 1.
Stir the 1 teaspoon of salt into the cold water. This is to help the soap release from the mold easier and is especially helpful if you’re using silicone molds. Once the salt is stirred in, pour in the lye. Make sure you’re wearing proper safety gear of goggles, long sleeves & gloves. This mixture gets hot fast and for a few moments will give off strong fumes that you should avoid breathing in.

    Step 2.
Set the lye solution aside to cool. I left mine sitting for several hours until it reached room temperature. (In my house, that’s around 75 to 80 degrees F.) Normally, I work with higher temperatures, but pine tar soap needs cooler ones than normal, to help prevent it from setting up too fast.

    Pouring the thick pine tar

    Step 3.
While the lye is cooling: Prepare your mold and measure the oils in a stainless steel, heat proof plastic, or enamel container. Melt the coconut oil just until it turns liquid and mix with the other oils. Set the oils aside until ready to mix. (They can be around room temperature too.)

    Step 4.
When you’re ready to make your soap, add the pine tar to the oils and stir until blended.

    Step 5.
Pour in the lye solution and stir with a heavy duty plastic or silicone spoon or spatula. You’ll notice the soap batter get thicker fairly quickly. It may take around 4 to 5 minutes to thicken, stirring by hand, depending on temperatures used.

Ready to sleep in silicone mold pine tar batter

    Step 6.
Pour the thickened soap batter into the mold and set aside. You don’t need to cover or insulate this soap.

    Step 7.
In 48 hours, you can try unmolding. Pine tar soap starts off a little soft but firms up as it cures in the air. If you added salt to the lye water, it should unmold a lot easier for you than if you didn’t.

    Step 8.
Slice into bars and let cure for at least four to six weeks.

    Aligning with the Moon cycle

    Add caption

     Moon-dialing

In past people were attuned with the lunar cycles using systems and clocks such as the long case Grandfather Clock to plan their events according to the Moon. Moon Dial was first used in the 18th century and it had to do with planning planting, traveling and sweeping the house. I don’t think we  can be certain from where originates the oldest Lunar calendar, but for sure ancient civilizations have been using the Moon phases for their calculations and predictions. It seems that the first Lunar calendars were Sun-Moon combined Lunisolar calendars used by the Sumerians, Slavic and Persian cultures. The modern ones are still used by the Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian and Hebrew people.

    Moon Synchrony

The Moon aligns about every 27 days (29.5 days in synodic cycle) to the same Moon sign you were born with, but it will never be the same. The Moon moves about 13° every day and according to the Tithis Lunar calendar, a lunar month consists of 30 tithis, whose start time and duration vary. Every day is also related to one of the Arabic letters used by many for navigation and magic. The Lunar Mansions have been used in astrology since centuries and define the positioning of the Moon as it circles the Earth.

“The Arabic word for the Mansions is “manzil”منازل meaning “house” and these positions were conceptualized as places where the Moon rested for the night. The Chinese name for the
Mansions 二十八宿 (Èr shí bā xiù) better illustrates this with the word xiù (宿)
meaning something more like a place one finds lodging for the night, almost like
a motel room you would stay in on your way to some other location.”

It takes about one week and six hours between each cycle. There is also Lunar Zodiac, which was traditionally considered to be even more important than the Solar one, because of the closer location of the Moon to the Earth. Knowing how strong is the connection of the Moon with our Earth’s events and our bodily waters, one should take their natal Moon sign into consideration. Calculating in which position was your Moon during her cycle around the Earth can give great insights of the emotional sphere of our psyche. If our emotions control our behavior, then it is worth looking in depth to our Moon sign position and its significations. The Moon in  represents the belly, the mother’s womb and our nurturing nature, she is the connection between our gut and emotions. The Moon is ruler of the Cancer sign and is responsible for our lymphatic system. Strangely on not so strangely enough the lymphatic system is the one that cleanses the body from cancerous cells. And one of the methods to cleanse is with water. There are different associations of which Chakra the Moon rules and I am not expert on Vedic astrology, but I feel that the Ajna, which is our Third Eye Chakra ruled by the Sun and the Moon is the one to consider.

I have to add here that recently the Nodal Axes of the Moon shifted their positions for the following 18 Months into the Cancer-Capricorn axes. This event is the beginning of a new Lunar Nodes cycle. I am not going to talk about the Moon Nodes today, but is important to mention what are this Axes Scales balancing between: home versus career, sensitivity and utility, compassion and competence. This are the topics, which will collectively influence us until June 4th, 2020.

    Cancer ~ June 22nd  to July 22nd
    Opposing Sign: Capricorn
Planet: Moon ~ is a ‘reactive’ planet, subject to sub-conscious predispositions, feelings about ‘self’ and conditioned responses.  It influences an urge to feel inner support as well as domestic and emotional security.
Element: Water ~ Water signs symbolize the cooling,
healing principle of sensitivity, having empathy with others.
    Gender: Female
    Quality:  Cardinal
    Cell Salt: Calcium fluoride
    Herbs: Tarragon and verbena
    Tarot Card: The Chariot

    The Moon faces:

FULL FACE- The day before the full face is auspicious. Sun-Moon polarity.
HALF WAXING MOON- More light. Power up.
HALF WANING MOON- Take a look at yourself.
DARK MOON FACE- After sunset become clear about new beginnings.

1st QUARTER- Picking up, martial energy. Acceleration.
2nd QUARTER- Heightened emotional reactions. Maintaining the course.
3rd QUARTER- Distributing the energy. Still auspicious.
4th QUARTER- Finishing up before relaxation.

The Chinese believed that the main brain that controls us is in the belly. They called it the root of the tree of life inside us. Also modern medicine has finally surprisingly discovered the about “90 percent of the fibers in the primary visceral nerve, the vagus, carry information from the gut to the brain and not the other way around“. In the following chapters I will discuss the Moon positions through the astrological signs and introduce topics which are connected to this Lunar phases. They can be either negative or positive, depending on the activity desired. I will not dive deep into the Lunar degrees or variety of astrological calendars. My aim is to connect this mysterious cycle with other natural cycles, calculations, calendars, health, organs and physical elements. The beneficial purpose of the Lunar observations in alignment with our daily doings, body and environment is in the creation of personalized Moon calendar and diary. Only through this lunar story, one would be able in long run to touch his deepest fears, traumas, desires and successfully navigate his habits for mindful living.

    Moon honoring

Today is the 6th of January and special New Moon and partial Solar eclipse shadow, which makes this event connected with the New Moon energy. This New Moon falls on 15° Capricorn and the star Vega, which happens to be one of my personal stars and I feel this is auspicious time for this topic to be written by the hand of grounding solar Capricorn. I plant my word seeds on this emerging New Moon, wishing them to sprout into swirling ferns of lunar affection.

“The Ebertins bring out the artistic side saying “In a good cosmic configuration, Vega is supposed to give artistic talents especially for music and acting, but also a liking for good living. With eccentric artists, this may lead to a debauched life. Vega is said to pave the way to riches and fame. In connection with the Moon…a tendency for occult and mysticism may be given.”

According to the Julian calendar and countries ruled by the Orthodox church, the 6th of January is celebrated as the “old Christmas“. I was baptized in Orthodox Cyprus, so I was always aware that on the 6th of January many cultures would have their Christmas festives. The 6th of January is also known as Epiphany Day. I learned that on the 25th of December saints were born, but Christ was born later in February. He was after all the Piscean man? “The truth is that no one really knows the actual date of Christ’s birth. Apparently the event was never intended to be included in the writings of the Bible. In fact, there is no record that Christ or His apostles celebrated birthdays.“. Kind of makes sense. In old days the tribes inhabiting the lands of Bulgaria had worshiped Iranian God Mithra, which some believe that to be another Sun God named Tangra. Mithra was born on the 25th of December, which brings us again to Christmas. “In his tract against heresies called Panarion, Epiphanius (AD c. 315–403), a Christian bishop on the island of Cyprus, affirms that Christ was born on 6 January.” Why all this Christmas born Gods and all this different dates to celebrate is another blog story about the Sun, the Solstice and Saturn, but in the beginning of January astronomically the Earth is closest to the Sun and we celebrate the Sun’s birth. This has nothing to do with seasons, but the fact that our planet has elliptical orbit. Most of the celestial bodies have elliptic orbit.

Zodiak Wheel, Beth Alpha synagogue Israel

And because the Sun-God has been ruling our calendars and traditions for long, I felt that the Moon-Mother is missing her honoring as she is even closer to us. Synchronicity on the 2nd of January 2019, China made history by landing on the Dark Side of the Moon. Could this mark the first close look the humanity made into our subconsciousness? At last we are ready to face the shadow of our human civilization. Appropriate time to finally publish this story. I would like to discuss in depth the relation between the Moon and us humans and to leave the 2019 Moon plan in the hands of ready generated Apps and calendars, which can be found in the info section in the end of last chapter. I have mentioned in my previous blog about our Piscean origins. We are belonging to the oceans from which we have emerged to build our homes on land. All humans are related through the waters. Ultimately the waters inside and outside us are effecting our behavior and life. And the grandmother Moon is this capellmeister who orchestrates all the tides and births on our Earth. Giving birth to ourselves, to our new selves, our future selves, cast through intentions flowing flower gondolas down the universal Ganges streams.

“Traditionally, the Moontime is the sacred time of woman when she is honored as a Mother of the Creative Force. During this time she is allowed to release the old energy her body has carried and prepare for reconnection to the Earth Mother’s fertility that she will carry in the next Moon or month. Our Ancestors understood the importance of allowing each woman to have her Sacred Space during this time of reconnection, because women were the carriers of abundance and fertility…”

“As Grandmother Moon is the weaver of tides ( the water or blood of our Earth Mother) so a woman’s cycles follow the rhythm of that weaving. When women live together in a common space, their bodies begin to regulate their menses and all will eventually have their Moontime concurrently. This natural rhythm is one of the bonds of Sisterhood.”

“Women honor their sacred path when they acknowledge the intuitive knowing inherent in their receptive nature. In trusting the cycles of their bodies and allowing the feelings to emerge within them, women have been Seers and Oracles for their tribes for centuries.”

    Blood cycles

When our living existence is in harmony with the Moon cycle, we can notice that our menstruation periods also align with the Full and New Moons. But often our busy life distracts this natural occurring cycle. One disturbance can be the use of contraceptives, which I personally had unpleasant experience with and felt they made me become different person. They had major effect on my physical and mental condition. Eventually I decided to rather suffer the cramps and PMS outbursts while looking for alternatives, than to deal with synthetic compounds, which are not personally designed for my hormonal needs. Later in life I discovered about yoni eggs, yoni steams and taking herbal mixtures or other supplements such as Vitamines and soothing foods. I wish this was taught in schools and Lunaception or other hormonal healing methods could have aligned my system from early age with the Moon cycles. I do believe that in a way through this “crazy” PMS feelings, women are freed from their maybe suppressed emotions, but I would strongly recommend all bleeding and suffering PMS females to read about “how to regulate your cycles“. We purge through bleeding and emotions, which teaches us pain endurance. Pain is inevitable, suffering optional. Suppressing this natural experiences with synthetic chemicals is not the key. But helping to understand our bodies and cycles, while using holistic methods makes much more sense to me. My mom use to say that red wine is like blood and even encouraged me from early age to have a glass of wine when bleeding. I would naturally seek for sweets and foods high on iron to help my body during blood loss. Isn’t it wonderful how we naturally seek what we need as nutrient?

I don’t write this only as yogini, who has been for long aligned with this lunar flow, but also from a common knowledge place, which has dissolved through the modern medicine and technological revolution. The first step of course to syncing with the Moon is healthy habits and observation. So lets start from the diary. Starting dream diary and adding Moon diary next to it makes perfect sense.

    Moon attuned

I am sure that most yogis reading this would agree that their body need different fuels for vitality. Eating over produced foods coated with artificial color for a taste is out of question. We shall consider only the major nutrient groups of fat, carbs, proteins, fiber and sodium. These elements are felt differently during waning or waxing Moon and through the different Zodiacal signs. The body seems to naturally adjust with the Moon cycle by giving us hints of what we need. But if we want to make sure, here is general grouping of the elements (for healthy people).
Fire Signs: Proteins, Earth Signs: Salts, Air Signs: Fats, Water Signs: Carbs.

New Moons are the point where new cycle begins, then we are more receptive and planning our intentions. During this empty New Moons we are more tired and in need of liquids, because the body water levels are low. We are emptying. When the full Moon fills up our body vessels with water we feel more active and might encounter nervous dispositions. This is the time to manifest our intentions and take a nice flower bath, to throw a party. During this about 29 day cycle, the Moon travels through the Lunar Mansions remaining in each Lunar Mansion for 2-3 days. As the Zodiacal signs carry different energies, they can be easily separated in yin – feminine – passive and yang – masculine – active. Their characteristics are also divided between the different elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air. The distribution of this energies has impact on our dietary and nutritional needs. The signs are also divided into Fixed, Cardinal and Mutable, which is used for planning surgeries and cosmetic procedures.

Each Zodiacal sign corresponds with an organ and part of our body. Every group Fire, Air, Water and Earth signs holds different vitality factors. Starting from Fire signs being most vital and Earth signs less vital and more grounded. Dispositions through excess for example of fire “agni” in the body should be considered and as Ayurveda teaches us on what supplements to take and which foods to avoid are of great help for harmonizing our body through the hot and cold seasons.

These “three humors and diseases” Vata, Pita and Kapha, are the foundation of Ayurveda’s healing principles. Medical astrology dates back till 4000 BC and it has much to say on our house chart positions and of course the Moon cycle position through the Zodiacal signs. To track this phases and be always on Lunar time, there are programs that calculate the current Moon position like the Lunarium web site does for free. There are also payed Apps such as  iLunaand or Dara and also the standard printed calendars to hang on the wall. I personally buy in Germany the one from Helga Föger. Adding the Moon phases to your Google Calendar for example helps to keep observation on the Moon’s magical workings in our daily existence. Starting with some kind of calendar and perhaps diary is necessary in order to understand through the process of observing and keeping notes on how does the Moon effect our being.

    My Rhythm

In 2018 I had the pleasure to cross path with this inspiring tender butterfly Clara Dorothee. She was at that time expecting mother and invited me to visit her family outside of Berlin in small town. I took the train carrying my heavy refractor telescope, hoping to talk to her and use the darker skies to observe the space with her. Our talks were sweet and bonding, like we drank from same dwell of inspiration. The hours passed dancing words and laughs and I realized I had to head back home. Her sweet youthful sparkle ignited a project which I had great pleasure to create with. Clara is a life-coach and regardless of her young age, she has the wisdom of double Cancer Sun-Moon and the adventurous flaming’ spirit that inspired me making the collage work for her Moon-practice booklet “My Rhythm”. This work is available online on her site in Patreon. Using the Moon Phases with ritual suggestions, can open new perspectives to anyone who is new to this practices. The diary site of the booklet allows us to contribute with own thoughts and visual expressions. For me the Moon is the guide of my underworld and my dreams, emerging during the darkest hours. I like inking this images from the shadows in my Dream Book. Writing down our dreams creates beautiful story of our subconscious life. Because with every 2,5 day Moon Sign movement, a new page of our life story book opens.

After we have connected with our Moon calendar and have started to keep track on the Moon phases, is easy to tap into the inherited wisdom of the Universal Mother. Using this wisdom of all the women ancestors and connecting with the womanhood circle will give you great support. Weather you are female, male or child, the Moon wisdom is for everyone. It is a fact that the male body is build of more water than the female, makes me think that males are even strongly effected by the Lunar phases. I personally believe that because we women are so strongly connected to the Moon via our menstruation waters, that males could benefit even more than us from this tracking of the Moon phases and using Food Rhythm or other system to align with the phases. I believe that because of the nurturing nature of the Moon energy, the male community could connect with their vulnerable side, which was dissolved through the masculine-solar empowered “Christian born” times we lived in. We all know the phrase “boys don’t cry”, which has effected our humanity in very negative way. Yes, crying is like menstruation purging and it is one way to connect with the spirit. I am glad to see more man taking active part in raising their children and being open about their fears and desires. I believe the Moon has already effected their male bellies releasing magical night butterflies, while strengthening the bridge between the sexes. If loves goes through the stomach, then we know what is missing… good enriching food and care. I believe that #metoo will be distant memory in the future, after the healing and empowering with lunar love-understanding of our masculine-yang-side.

    Moon in the Signs

It is known since centuries that during Scorpio or Cancer Moon phase, no body operations are recommended, or at least not major ones. The reason for that has to do with the Moon tides and of course the nature of the signs. While the Moon transits the fixed signs of Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus, would be the best time for surgery, because of the steady energy. But I personally think that Scorpio rules poisons and it is water sign, which isn’t suitable for all operations, unless they are somehow metaphysical (perhaps healing through hypnoses). I would assume that all Lunar Sign position modalities are good, they are simply different. There are different sources for this classification, but the old Hellenistic system on body part rulers has been widely used for deciding upon surgeries and such:

Aries rules the head, including face, brain, and eyes. Cell Salt is is potassium phosphate.
Taurus rules the throat, including neck, vocal chords, and thyroid gland. Cell salt is sulfate of sodium, a mineral that controls the amount of water in the system.
Gemini rules the lungs, including the shoulders, arms, hands, and nervous system. Cell Salt is potassium chloride, which builds fibrin in the blood, organs, and tissues of the body.
Cancer rules the breasts. Cell salt is calcium fluoride, which unites with albumen and oil in the body’s system to keep elastic and connective tissues healthy.
Leo rules the heart, and upper back. Cell salt is magnesium phosphate, which keeps the motor nerves in top functioning order and is also necessary to the formation of the skeletal structure.
Virgo rules digestion, intestines, and spleen. Cell salt is potassium sulfate, which regulates oil in the body, carries oxygen to cells, and is essential to muscle contraction.
Libra rules the kidneys, lumbar region, and buttocks. Cell salt is sodium phosphate, which equalizes the balance of acids and alkalies in the body and rids the body of waste material.
Scorpio rules the sex organs and bowels. Cell salt is calcium sulfate, which is the prime ingredient in the repair of tissues and resistance to infectious diseases. The nose, mouth, throat, esophagus, reproductive organs, and intestinal pathways need this mineral for healthy functioning. A deficiency opens the way to colds and sinus infections that hang on forever, skin eruptions which do not heal, and infertility.
Sagittarius rules the thighs, hips, and sciatic nerve. Cell salt is silica, which strengthens the nervous system, keeps the connective brain tissue healthy, and prevents numbness in fingers, legs and feet.
Capricorn rules skin, teeth, and bones including the skeletal system. Cell salt is calcium phosphate, which is the most important element in bone formation.
Aquarius rules the ankles and circulatory system. Cell salt is sodium chloride – common table salt.
Pisces rules the feet including toes, lymphatic system, and adipose tissue. Cell salt is ferrum phosphate, which is iron.

“Touch not with iron that part of the body ruled by the sign the Moon is transiting”
    – Hippocrates

Through unnatural procedures like surgical opening of the body, we expose it to air. The surgical knife is also made of iron or some type of metal. This means that best is to ask advise of professional astrologer to define our chart and the current Moon positioning, or if we have already some observations and knowledge on this, to look into the Farmer’s Moon calendar to plan our medical treatment. For example any dental procedures done during Capricorn Moon, because Capricorn rules the teeth are not recommended. Aries rules the head, so anything during Aries Moon transit involving head manipulations, should be avoided. The different Moon phases also effect our conception and menstruation and this short but clear blog gives great tips on this topics.

The Earth signs seems to be generally recommended as auspicious Moon Phases for surgeries, because of their grounding energy. Air signs seems to be best for procedures involving modern technology. The healing waters expressed through the Water Moons should be best for anything involving healing and alternative medical practices. If you want the operation to be performed quickly, the Fire signs are perfect for that. Of course each sign separately has their own quality and bodily part ruling, which should be taken into account. Best would be, to consider if possible to have surgery when the Moon is moving through a sign, that is distal (furthest) away from the body part involved. Choosing a surgeon with Scorpio Moon would make sense, while a doctor with North Node or major planets in Virgo is also favored, since Virgo rules the 6th house of health and hygiene. Capricorn doctor is also a good bet.

    The Werewolf waxing and diet

I personally use the Moon calendar mainly for food nutrition syncing and also to water and feed my plants. I have observed that my house plant life has improved ever since I nurture them accordingly to the Moon cycle. Regarding massage, nail and hair care, I have noticed as well that those Capricorn days corresponding with skin, hair and teeth and bones are perfect for that. The Full Moon also makes hair grow fast and thick. When the Moon is passing through a fertile signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, repair, recovery and growth is promoted. The dry signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are the best for permanent removals like waxing or laser (leaving little fertile energy to support regrowth). To check when are the best days for hair growth, check this Farmer’s almanac for example.

As we know plant pruning, feeding and cutting has to do with the Moon cycle. Just as the plants, we could benefit from structural regime with favorable times for gaining or removing. There also days when we need to rest and be still. These days have much to do with the waning and waxing positioning of the Moon. When waxing, we are prone to gaining weight. This is the phase to add things. When the Moon is waning- to loose weight. The waning phase is best for removing things. I will not complicate this system by adding here that each weekly day is has own Planetary ruler. This has also effect on us, but it would be for another blog to come. The fasting days are usually done for one day and could do everyone good. Drinking only water on this day or green tea, is beneficial for the whole digestive system. There are many ways to fast. For example the Hindus have it on Full on New Moons. This type of fasting has no scientific backing on how successful the results are, so I would suggest to listen to your body and decide what fits your own daily program.

The old Orthodox calendar has always had marked days for fasting. There are two types of fast recognized: Ascetic Fast and a Eucharistic Fast. Some days only sweets are expelled, others prohibit meat or animal products and third are only for water consuming. In general stimulating dishes are prohibited during the whole fast. The idea of fasting has to do with will power and simple natural food intake, such as cracked wheat, rice and water. Apple vinegar or olive oil and lemon juice are great liver cleanse. I am not sure how to connect the Orthodox fasting traditions with the Lunar cycles, but its clear that the Orthodox fasting calendar has many specific dates, which prohibit certain foods. Also Wednesdays and Fridays are fasting days. I believe that this fasting ritual has to be aligned to some cyclic system. Like the Buddhist fast is with the Moon cycle. This topic I would like to further research in the future. In general fasting has to do with clearing the guts from mushrooms and bacteria. Purging from parasites is an old ritual and it is connected with the Moon phases.

I believe that the winter fast prepares our body for the peak of the winter and helps it to be nourished and well during the darkest hours. And the spring fasting is clearing the toxins and rejuvenating the whole system before the summer season starts. The Chinese are known for their ancient system which corresponds with every organ, every element, every energy canal and certain daily hour. Learning more about this could be great mind opening step for our health care advancement. I dream of future where we have minimized the need to visit doctors. I believe we are self-sufficient beings who can take care only through correct nutrition. As Hippocrates has stated: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.“. One of my favorite authors on health and self care is by Viktor Vostokov. The white Lama teachings tell about all the synthesizes between the elements, stars and us. It is my almanac for nutrition and care. If you read Russian or are lucky to find him translated, I would recommend his work is eternal and books are short and to the point. Or any book on ancient Tibetan medicine would cover the topics.

If our children eat according to the season, consume only local fresh foods, cook themselves at least once a day, the world will not only become less polluted, because of eating locally, but definitely dramatically less overweight and more healthier. Our modern professions have much to do with sitting. Our city pollution has hit record of 8 percent and our transporting technology has taken away much from the needed walking mobility. Eating accordingly to the 24 hour bodily clock is something we should take into consideration. For example at 3 am the largest organ, our liver is activated in full work of detoxification. And at 3 pm we usually experience tiredness, need for coffee, sugars or nuts, because our insulin levels drop rapidly at this hour. Everyone knows that small portions are better dissolved by the digestive system. To eat according to this clock would have great impact on our well being. I am not writing this as an expert in the field, but someone who has been studying, researching and trying to adapt it on daily bases. I want to raise awareness while walking this path. Personally I struggle with this clock, because of my full time job and other routines, which cannot always match the current Clock or Moon cycle. But I do believe, that through aligning and being aware, we will achieve better health, will power and happiness.

    The Moon Void

“Not so long ago, I found an article by Estelle Daniels in the old 1997 Llewellyn’s Moon Sign Book. The article is titled Using the Void-of-Course Moon, and it offers some great ideas and examples. Quoting from this article,

During a void Moon you should not sign a contract, make plans, close a deal, or start a project. Basically anything which you want to have a concrete real-world result should not be started, signed or sealed. If you do, these things will never get off the ground, never materialize, have to be re-done, or have so many problems and setbacks as to be useless anyhow.

    On the other hand,

… if you want to drop a bombshell, and yet have fewer repercussions in the long run, during the void-of-course Moon is the time to do it.”

    – Void of Course

The Moon Void is something for the astrology practitioners and those who have some talents in mathematics or magical practice. I would not touch the Moon Void subject deeper, because I don’t have the knowledge for it. But this would be another theme to look forward to learn more about and perhaps put into practice. I think that this blog has touched various subjects connected to the Moon Cycle. After all this effects of the Moon on our planet and us and we still use mainly the Solar calendar? That is another big discussion, because obviously what calendars we upon our time and seasons on, they would rule our life. The Moon still will have her consequence, weather or not we are aligned with her. But perhaps this life starts from our homes and habits. If we connect with the Moon calendar through yoga or other breathing practice. If we apply the Moon cycle in our daily dealings, then perhaps the Moon calendar should remain as our private one. Just like the crab’s shell, we hide inside our nourishing homes and protect the most vulnerable and valuable of things through love and care. Please share your personal Lunar experiences on the nutrition and health care topics and I would be glad to respond to any questions arise on this matter.
