Onça Panthera is a genus within the family Felidae that was named and described by Lorenz Oken in 1816 who placed all the spotted cats in this group. We've written about Martenitsa before, but this is the first time we created our own lucky martenitsa. These pieces of adornment are part of the #Bulgariatradition known as Baba Marta, celebrated on the 1st of March, and are given as a symbol of health, abundance and fertility. Martenitsa is a real talisman, given at the end of winter and beginning of spring, when the person is weaker and mostly susceptible to sickness and needs protection. It is believed that the #martenitsa can absorb evil and that is why it is not worn all the time, but only at an appointed period of time. When it is disposed of, it is like the evil has been sent to the other world. We wear martenitsa until we see a stork or sparrow (we throw them towards the bird) or we leave it on a blooming fruit tree. We then say: "Take away the winter ugliness and leave me the spring beauty!"

Talisman Origins

#Talisman comes from the Arabic tilsam and designates an object (stone, ring, and so on) bearing sacred signs to which magical properties of protection and power are attributed. The Arabic tilsam is itself derived from the Greek telesma, which encompasses a wide semantic range. For Clement of Alexandria and Gregory of Nazianzus, it had the meaning of religious #ceremony; for the Byzantines, it designated a ghost (stocheio); and for Andrew of Crete, it referred to a diabolical work. The verb télo means “to bring to an end,” and the compound télétourgia means “the rite.” It therefore appears that the #talisman is an object that is sanctified, probably ritually, which invests it with an effective and beneficial #magickal power. Nan Madol and Lelu are two of the greatest archaeological sites in the Pacific region. They thrived from A.D. 8th to 14th century. Nan Madol on the southeast side of Pohnpei island, is ancient, mysterious city situated on 92 artificial islets built on tidal flats and the edge of a barrier reef called #Sougnahleng "Reef of Heaven". Covering about 820,000 m2, the islets contain the ruins of more than 100 building constructed of hexagonal #basalt logs that are stacked on top of one another log cabin style. Some logs are over 15 m long and weighing 50 tons!

Nan Madol on #Pohnpei reached its height under the Saudeleurs, a draconian royal dynasty referred as the first organized government of #Micronesia. The 1st of the 16 Saudeleurs was Olosohpa, one of the builders of Nan Mandol. The last Saudeleur was conquered by Isokelekel, whose son Nahlepenien was the first Nahhnmwarki of Pohnpei. According to #Saudeleur legend, Isokelekel, the son of the Thunder God, was banished to Kosrae for having an affair with the wife of a Saudeleur. #Isokelekel heard many stories about the cruel acts of the Saudeleurs when he was young. When he was old enough he took an army of 333 men to #NanMandol and pretended to be friendly visitors, and later attacked. The Saudeleurs fled and were tracked down and killed.

Onça Ritual Offerings was initiated March 2019. The name derives from the Latin “Uncia” and is also historically associated with gold coins, 1/12 part and also large wild felines. Onça Panthera is a genus within the family Felidae that was named and described by Lorenz Oken in 1816 who placed all the spotted cats in this group. The tiger, lion, leopard, and jaguar are the only cat species with the anatomical structure that enables them to roar.

We've written about Martenitsa before, but this is the first time we created our own lucky martenitsa. These pieces of adornment are part of the #Bulgariatradition known as Baba Marta, celebrated on the 1st of March, and are given as a symbol of health, abundance and fertility. Martenitsa is a real talisman, given at the end of winter and beginning of spring, when the person is weaker and mostly susceptible to sickness and needs protection. It is believed that the #martenitsa can absorb evil and that is why it is not worn all the time, but only at an appointed period of time. When it is disposed of, it is like the evil has been sent to the other world. We wear martenitsa until we see a stork or sparrow (we throw them towards the bird) or we leave it on a blooming fruit tree. We then say: "Take away the winter ugliness and leave me the spring beauty!"

Talisman Origins

#Talisman comes from the Arabic tilsam and designates an object (stone, ring, and so on) bearing sacred signs to which magical properties of protection and power are attributed.
