KEY INGREDIENTS:

♦ Camphor Essential Oil is most commonly known for fighting cough and itchy skin, but is classically used for spiritual cleansing and purification. If intrusive energies or harmful entities are attaching to you, Camphor can eliminate such forces from your life and cleanse your aura. Camphor has purifying qualities and is very useful for protection as well. It can be too strong for people suffering from epilepsy or asthma.

♦ Tea Tree Essential Oil is used in spell-work for seeking physical, mental, or emotional strength. Documentation shows that the indigenous people of Australia would crush the leaves of the tea tree to release the oil, then inhale the aroma to mitigate coughs and colds. They would also use the leaves to brew tea to soothe sore throats. Additionally, some would transform the leaves into a poultice and apply it directly to the skin to alleviate minor wounds and insect bites.

♦ Pomegranate Seed Oil has 1 in comedogenic rating, suits most skin types, especially mature and it is high in punicic acid. According to historical sources, there is evidence of the existence of Pomegranate trees as early as 4000 B.C. In Greek mythology, Pomegranates represent the cycle of death and rebirth. The pomegranate fruits have been traditionally emblem of abundance, ambition, beauty, eternal life, fertility, hope, human civilization, the irrevocable bond of marriage, mystery, sanctity, resurrection, and royalty. Used medicinally, Pomegranate Carrier Oil works to deeply penetrate the skin to soothe and reduce inflammation while protecting skin against sun damage.

♦ Rosemary Essential Oil was considered sacred by the ancient cultures. The botanical name of this plant “rose of the sea”, comes from its affection for growing by the seashore. This herb was frequently used as an incense at funeral rites. In Sicily, this plant is associated with the Italian equivalent of fairies, who hide under it in the form of snakes, and in Portugal, a dialect name for this magick herb translates as “Elfin plant.

By nature lunar herbs are cool and moist. They represent the feminine or Yin aspects of the Universe and may be worked in polarity with solar herbs. Lunar herbs promote a nurturing quality within the individual and work compatibly with the receptive aspects of one’s being.

“The lunar correspondences with human anatomy include much of the brain and the rear pituitary. The left eye and the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, and hormones associated with the alimentary system), the uterus, the breasts, ovaries and menstrual cycle are also governed by the Moon. Most modern medical astrologers place the lymphatic system and the sympathetic nervous system with the Moon as well.” (Dr. Paul Beyerl)

The Eleusinian Story:

The Rites of Eleusis, or the Eleusinian Mysteries, were the secret rituals of the mystery school of Eleusis and were observed regularly from c. 1600 BCE – 392 CE. The rituals were based on a symbolic reading of the story of Demeter and Persephone and provided initiates with a vision of the afterlife so powerful that it changed the way they saw the world and their place in it. The Mysteries were enacted twice a year at the equinox times.

The story of Demeter and Persephone offers a vision of eternal life and triumph over death. Persephone was named Kore, who was abducted by the underworld lord Hades. The goddess of harvest Demeter is also know as Ceres. “While she was playing in a glade where Spring was everlasting, gathering violets, Pluto ‘saw her, prized her, took her.’- writes Ovid. The Romans named Hades (Hell) as Pluto. Pluto ruled Hades, the Underworld, and in the myth, he takes Proserpina back down with him, every Autumn and Winter. This symbolizes the notorious peaks and troughs, the turning seasons, bipolar feelings of highs and lows, light and dark, summer and winter.

During the times Proserpina spend in the Underworld, she would eat Pomegranate seeds. They are the symbol of the deal Ceres had with Pluto to let her daughter visit the Earth for six months. Proserpina, lady of transitions, other-worldly realms, and sacrifice was the Queen of Hell. Proserpina shows you altered states of being, can help you to open up to all the stimuli of life, assists you to adapt and change in response to your environment, and even helps you to cultivate psychic perception.

Goddess of the Harvest, Ceres is about cycles, the waxing and waning of the crops. She is seen through the loss of her daughter as a portal of angst. She presents the dark emotions of attachment and agape mother has to go through when her children mature. This feelings are often negative and desperate, connected to the Dark Moon Hecate. Those are the conditions connected to the age crises of a woman and the time she has to spend without her children. Ceres represents the abundant, emerging, cyclical maturation and creative bloom. She embodies the tremendous power, passion and productivity, which are pulled from the negative emotions of grief, loss, betrayal, rage, pain and abandonment.

Pluto symbolizes this which presides over the after life and was considered as a healer. Hades’s brothers were Zeus/Jupiter and Poseidon/Neptune. Pluto rules the river of death with his tree headed dog. He is a secondary ruler of the astrological sign of Scorpio, which is originally ruled by Mars, but it is feminine sign. Scorpio rules rebirth and things “below the surface”, this are the deep emotions buried out of sight.

The former sites of this great pagan ritual and learning were destroyed throughout the 4th and 5th centuries CE. The temple of Demeter and every sacred site in Eleusis was sacked by the Arian Christians with Alaric, King of the Goths, in his invasion of 396 CE. The story of this rites is not new and were once the ancient world gathered to experience viscerally the truths of life, of death, and the promise of rebirth, now there commonly church has been build over. It is quite likely that the Mysteries were influenced by Egyptian religious beliefs which understood death as a transition to another phase of existence, not the end of one’s life. By telling this story, Onca’s aim is to revive this sacred tradition, with symbolism for revival and regeneration, instead of judgment and punishment. The understanding of the cyclical power of Life and to show gratitude towards it, because without the seasons, our Earth would have been a very different place. Thanks to this story of transformation struggle, which blooms into fruitful harvest, we humans have existed. The wisdom here is to never forget how important for us is this balance of light and dark, summer and winter, sweet and sour.

  1. Tom

I have dry skin on my hands, especially in winter. I really struggled to
find soaps which did not exacerbate the problem, so Oncas soaps have
been a godsend as they are very gentle. I have saved a fortune on
    moisturising creams! Tom, UK
